DPM was backing up file shares for more as a month without a problem. But suddenly, no backups of the file share could be made.
A lot of errors were showing up in the DPM console and eventviewer.
DPM errors:
- End-user recovery permissions update failed:
Failed to update permissions used for end-users recovery on <server>. Permissions update failed for the following reason: (ID 3123)
DPM is unable to enumerate <File Share> on computer <backup server>. (ID 3055 Details: The device is not connected (0x8007048F))
Please ensure that <File Share> is accessible to protection agent.
- Backup to tape failed: The back up to tape job failed for the following reason: (ID 3311)
DPM encountered an error while performing an operation for ?Volume{} on <backup server> (ID 2033 Details: The system cannot find the path specified (0×80070003))
Eventviewer had following error:
Volume D:..PMDPMVolumesReplica.. is offline for shadow copy protection. The shadow copy storage was exhausted before conditions permitted it to grow. Please try clearing the protection fault or restart the computer. If all else fails, revert out of shadow copy protection mode to reclaim the use of the volume while losing the shadow copies.
After deleting the protection group WITH all replica’s on disk the backups worked again.
The volume DPM used to write backups to was corrupt.
After deleting the protection group and not retaining data on disk (recovery points on tape don’t need to be removed.) DPM removed the corrupted volume.
When re-creating the group a new volume was created.
File Share recovery points are working again.
I couldn’t find a reason for this. It appears to be a rare problem.
